Flame Tree Submissions NEW 2019

Adventures in Space

A New Collection of Chinese and English Stories

Exploring the frontiers of space, language, society and culture we need stories that push at the boundaries of space and time. The Chinese stories have been selected by Yao Haijun Editor-in-Chief of Science Fiction World, the world's largest circulation SF magazine. The English language stories will be selected by the President of the H.G. Wells Society, noted critic and editor, Professor Patrick Parrinder. The book will be published in both Chinese and English language markets worldwide. Seeking new and recent stories, 6000-8000 words. Payment will be 8 cents for each word (SFWA qualifying market rate) and 6 cents for reprints.

Submissions will open 7th of October, and close 20th of October - please send to 2019@flametreepublishing.com.
We will aim to read each story and confirm its status within 4 months of the submission deadline.

After Sundown

A New Collection of Horror Stories

Edited by Mark Morris ("...one of the finest horror writers at work today" – Clive Barker) After Sundown is an eclectic, vibrant collection of tales by contemporary writers, both established and new. Mark has approached an impressive range of authors (to be revealed at a later date...) but we've reserved space for four new stories from the online submissions. This is a prestigious anthology and will be published worldwide in hardcover, paperback, and later in a stunning, Flame Tree-style decorated edition. We're looking for thrilling stories of suspense, delving into the dark spaces of the night, ideally between 2000 and 5000 words. Our standard rates apply.

Submissions will open 21st of October, and close 3rd of November - please send to 2019@flametreepublishing.com.
We will aim to read each story and confirm its status within 4 months of the submission deadline.

Gothic Fantasy Short Stories

Bodies in the Library (Crime & Mystery) and Footsteps in the Dark (Horror & Suspense)

Two new titles in our long-standing series of 480-page short story collections. As always, we combine fantastic new writing with curated classic texts. For Bodies in the Library we need tales of crime in stately houses, lonely mansions, ancient castles. Footsteps in the Dark will tease out the terror of the alleyways, the edges of the town, the frontier shacks, the winter forests and lonely mountain hideaways. An emphasis on heightened senses would differentiate the best stories from the rest! Word length is most likely to be successful at 2000–4000, but we will still read stories slightly outside this range. Payment will be 8 cents for each word (SFWA qualifying market rate) and 6 cents for reprints.

Submissions will open 11th of November, and close 1st of December - please send to 2019@flametreepublishing.com.
We will aim to read each story and confirm its status within 3 months of the submission deadline.

Thank you, and good luck. We look forward to reading your tales of imagination!
