The follow-up to last year's [After Sundown](https://www.flametreepublishing.com/after-sundown-isbn-9781787584570.html), praised by Booklist as a ‘*rich and masterful collection of horror’, *it will be available from **October 2021 **(in time for Halloween)! This new anthology contains **20 original horror stories**, 16 of which have been commissioned from some of the top names in the genre, and 4 of which have been selected from the 100s of stories sent to Flame Tree during a 2-week open **submissions** window.  **![Beyond the Veil_Announcement_2](https://blog.flametreepublishing.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Beyond%20the%20Veil_Announcement_2.jpg?width=709&name=Beyond%20the%20Veil_Announcement_2.jpg) **   **What Mark says about the book**: ‘By their very nature, horror stories should shine a light on our darkest fears and taboos. If you’re coming to BEYOND THE VEIL with the hope of experiencing nothing more than a few cosy and familiar chills, therefore, I’m afraid you’re in for a rude awakening. The stories in this anthology are confrontational. They are about things that truly disturb us; things that prey on our minds. Most horror stories stem from a loss of control, and that’s certainly true of many of the characters and situations you will encounter in these pages. As ever, there is something for everyone here: there are monsters both human and otherworldly; there are shifting realities; childhood nightmares; dark magics conjured by desperation and despair. As human beings we kid ourselves that we have a semblance of control over our lives, our circumstances, our environment, our health… but it doesn’t take much for that control to be wrested from us, and for the rug to be wrenched violently out from under our feet. And that is the essence of true horror.’   ## Contents List: THE GOD BAG by [Christopher Golden](https://www.christophergolden.com/)   CAKER’S MAN by [Matthew Holness](https://twitter.com/MrHolness)   THE BEECHFIELD MIRACLES by [Priya Sharma](https://priyasharmafiction.wordpress.com/)   CLOCKWORK by [Dan Coxon](http://www.dancoxon.com/)   SOAPSTONE by [Aliya Whiteley](https://aliyawhiteley.wordpress.com/)   THE DARK BIT by [Toby Litt](https://tobylitt.wordpress.com/)   PROVENANCE POND by [Josh Malerman](https://joshmalerman.com/)   FOR ALL THE DEAD by [Angeline B. Adams and Remco van Straten](http://indiespecfic.blogspot.com/2020/10/interview-with-angeline-b-adams-and.html)   THE GIRL IN THE POOL by [Bracken MacLeod](https://brackenmacleod.wixsite.com/author-site)   NURSE VARDEN by [Jeremy Dyson](https://twitter.com/dysonjeremy?lang=en)   IF, THEN by [Lisa L.
