Fever Dreams | Horror Anthology Announcement

Posted by Leah Ratcliffe
We’re delighted to present the contents list for our upcoming FLAME TREE PRESS Horror anthology, Fever Dreams, the sixth title in collaboration with editor Mark Morris. The follow-up to last year's Elemental Forces, and the series which Booklist has previously described as "Highly recommended for longstanding horror fans and those readers who may not think horror is for them." This new anthology contains 20 original horror stories, 16 of which have been commissioned from some of the top names in the genre, and 4 of which have been selected from the 100s of stories sent to Flame Tree during a 2-week open submissions window.

Previous titles in the non-themed horror ABC series, all still in print, are After Sundown, Beyond the Veil, Close to Midnight, Darkness Beckons and Elemental Forces.

What Mark says about the book: It often seems as though this world of ours is becoming increasingly crazy, yet it is in this febrile hinterland of human fears, phobias and anxieties where the inspiration for horror stories most commonly thrives, and where ideas gestate and develop. Fever Dreams marks the sixth annual anthology in the ‘ABC of Horror’ series, and the stories that have this year flooded in from contributors continue to be as relevant, inventive and varied as ever. All human – and inhuman – life is here, represented within these twenty tales. In Fever Dreams you’ll find cosmic awe, human depravity, and monsters conjured from the darkest recesses of our own souls. Thematically, the class of 2025 delve into the horrors of toxic masculinity and identity theft, mid-life disillusionment and lack of self-worth, intolerance and cruelty and deep-seated trauma. But if this all sounds rather grim, be assured there is also humour here, to leaven the darkness – though admittedly the laughs do invariably come with a generous side order of body horror.
