With new stories on the theme and a foreword by Margaret Murphy, the book joins our flourishing series of anthologies and is perfect for fans of the crime genre. In last week’s Author Q&A, which you can read here, authors from the collection revealed the inspirations behind their contribution. Now, they kindly return to cast light on their writing methods, and reveal their own favourite crime stories:

Our latest short story anthology, Chilling Crime Short Stories, is out today in the USA and Canada! In keeping with other books in the series, the collection combines new and recent fiction with work from classic authors of the genre. To celebrate its release into the world, we’ve been in touch with the modern authors to ask a few questions about their ways of working, influences, and their story in the book. In this first part of the Q&A, they share a little about the inspiration behind their contributions…

We’re very excited to reveal the list of authors featured in our upcoming anthology, Asian Ghost Short Stories! Due for publication in February (UK) and April 2022 (USA/Canada), the book focuses on the rich supernatural lore and storytelling that runs deep and wide through the whole region and history of Asia. With a foreword by novelist, screenwriter and bestselling author K. Hari Kumar, an introduction by ghostly expert and enthusiast Dr. Luo Hui, and an Associate Editor in the form of award-winning author-editor Lee Murray, this collection combines older works with retellings and fresh stories by contemporary Asian voices. Terrifying Ghosts Short Stories, available to buy now, is the newest addition to our range of Gothic Fantasy collections. In the book, classic ghost stories join a selection of fantastic tales by modern authors, designed to spook and entertain. In last week’s Author Q&A, which you can read here, the anthology’s living authors spoke about the inspiration behind their included work. The collection combines tales by modern authors with classic fiction from the genre, so fresh perspectives and frights accompany work by M.R. James, Edith Nesbit, Lafcadio Hearn, E.F. Black Sci-Fi is our latest anthology to feature new and recent fiction alongside stories by writers from a much older tradition. On the classic side, the book includes thought-provoking work by Martin R. Delany, Sutton E. Griggs, Pauline Hopkins and Edward Johnson, as well as ‘The Comet’ by W.E.B. Du Bois. Last week, the collection’s modern authors discussed the inspiration behind their stories in the book, in Part 1 of the Author Q&A. Now, they return to offer more recommendations in the genre, as well as providing details on how they bring their own stories to fruition!

Our latest anthology Black Sci-Fi combines thrilling new and recent stories with early speculative and proto-science fiction by Black writers of an older tradition. With a foreword by Alex Award-winning novelist Temi Oh and an introduction by Sandra M. Grayson, alongside invaluable promotion and editorial support from Tia Ross and the Black Writers Collective, this is an anthology we’ve been especially excited to share! We’re delighted to present the final line-up of authors in our Terrifying Ghosts Short Stories anthology, due for release in April 2021 (UK) and June 2021 (US). As one of the latest titles in our Gothic Fantasy series, this new collection similarly pairs stories from modern authors with older, classic fiction from the genre. We received nearly a thousand stories in our call for submissions on this theme, so after several months narrowing down the selection we are excited to share the results!
