This new outing for the Nazi zombie genre sees Jovan Adepo and Wyatt Russell as American soldiers who lead their squadron on a mission to disable a radio tower on the night before D-Day. What they discover is something much darker than any of them expected.

In the latest film to feature the iconic British duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, we see an elite british boarding school under attack from sub-terranean monsters (and more importantly the fracking industry).

Continuing our look at some of horror's most beloved elements and mainstays, we are turning our head to Halloween itself. Halloween is built around horror and scaring away evil spirits but its history in horror fiction is relatively short. Many scary stories are told on Halloween, but until the mid 20th century they did not often reference the holiday itself. In this blog we will be looking at the history of the holiday; where did it come from, what's it about, and when did it become a feature of horror stories?   

Haunted Houses are a staple of horror films, novels, TV shows, short stories and campfire tales but they also happen to be one of our favorite themes for horror. They might seem like a product of the past few hundred years but the history of haunted houses and their use in storytelling actually goes back thousands of years!

To celebrate Halloween week we are going to be posting a few blog posts on different aspects of horror fiction. Since we understand that readers are also often writers, we thought we could kick it off with a quick conversation with our horror authors on why they started writing horror and what their main influences were. 

With the success of our September titles and the launch of our three new October ones, we are looking ahead toward November and January. FLAME TREE PRESS is the trade fiction imprint of Flame Tree Publishing, with editorial offices in both London and New York. We publish globally in the English language, in print and ebook formats and audiobook, with a focus on excellent writing in horror and the supernatural, crime and mystery thrillers, and science fiction and fantasy. Our aim is to explore beyond the boundaries of the everyday, finding new pathways for the imagination, with tales from both award-winners and original voices. This month, there are three books arriving in Hardback, Paperback, Audiobook and eBook on Thursday October 18th and in todays blog we are meeting the writers behind the books!

The new action thriller, Mile 22, centres on an elite secret service team who carry out secret operations in what is intended to be a very secret manner but never seems to end up being that secret. The elite nature of this team is touted throughout the film but how does it fair when a mission doesn’t quite go to plan? 

We're excited to now open for submissions to the next two anthologies set for 2019 publication: American Gothic and Urban Crime. These will join a thriving list of Gothic Fantasy titles, including Supernatural Horror, Robots & Artificial Intelligence, Dystopia Utopia, and more. Again, we are looking for around twenty to thirty short stories by contemporary writers to complement a selection of classic tales in these anthologies. We are keen to encourage new writers, without prejudice to age, background or previous publication history. It’s the story that matters, and the quality of writing.
